Blu dropped this track on his twitter a couple days ago and has apparently been recording over some Pete Rock beats. Blu kills the hazy and soulful production with his smooth, confident lyricism, and leaves me hoping that there’s more of these gems coming.

“Jump Down” is the first single off of Travis Barker’s upcoming album, Give The Drummer Some, which is set for an October release on Interscope. The album will feature production from DJ Khalil, The Neptunes, Swizz Beatz, RZA, DJ Premier, and Pete Rock, with verses from hip hop heavyweights such as Weezy, Eminem, Pharrell, RZA, Lupe Fiasco, Rick Ross, The Clipse, Ghostface, among other big names. Barker, who is known for his hard, punchy hip hop remixes, played drums on all the tracks and served as the executive producer of the album. The track was produced by Barker and Chuck Inglish, and has a simplistically fresh synthy breakbeat under some gritty rhymes from Mikey Rocks and Chuck Inglish of The Cool Kids.
Kanye West drops another track from his G.O.O.D. Friday releases. The track features the label’s heavyweights Common, Kid Cudi, Big Sean, Charlie Wilson and marks the G.O.O.D. Music debut of the brother Thornton and Pusha T of The Clipse. This is an exciting new alliance in hip hop, with both Pusha T’s solo debut and The Clipse’s next album being released through Kanye’s label. “Good Friday” displays the stripped-down sound that I’ve been waiting for from Kanye and officially has me excited for his new album. The November release is set to feature production from hip hop legends DJ Premier, Pete Rock, Just Blaze, RZA, to name just a few. The beat has College Dropout-esque drums over a simple piano loop, but you can’t help and nod your head.

Detroit MC Danny Brown is both praised and hated for his unique flow, ridiculous statements and obnoxiously blunt punchlines. His new track “Cyclops” is no exception. Brown is perhaps best known for his memorable verse he contributed to the track “Dilla Bot vs. The Hybrid” on the posthumously-released J-Dilla Album, Jay Stay Paid, mixed/produced by Pete Rock.
