Craig Finn: Clear Heart Full Eyes

Posted on

Craig Finn, most famously known as the frontman of The Hold Steady, is set to release his solo debut at the end of the month. Finn culled the eleven tracks for the album over a four month period in 2011, when he challenged himself to write a song a day. The introspective Clear Heart Full Eyes has a decidedly more Americana feel than The Hold Steady’s most recent releases. According to Finn,

I had written a bunch of songs that were outside of the norm for The Hold Steady, a little quieter and perhaps more narrative. I wanted to gain some experience and insight into the process of making a record by working with new people.

Stream two tracks from the new album, “Honolulu Blues” and the recently released “My New Friend Jesus,” below and look for Clear Heart Full Eyes January 24th via Vagrant Records.

His latest single, “Nothing Is News,” takes some psychedelic twists and turns and shows Jurado continuing to evolve. Dr. Dog: That Old Black Hole

It’s hard to believe Dr. Dog has been around for over ten years now, but the Philly retro-rockers just keep rolling. The band, always known for their killer live show, has been fine-tuning their revivalist sound in the studio the past decade and posted a great effort in 2010 with Shame, Shame. Despite a relentless tour schedule in ’11, Dr. Dog has managed to produce a follow-up. Be The Void is the group’s sixth studio album and second on ANTI-. Check out a video for the album’s first single “That Old Black Hole” above and the new album art after the jump.
