Wednesday November 30th, 2011 13:58 Germany Germany: 120

We love a good cause here at Sloane. We also happen to love the tasty beats that pulse from Germany Germany’s hard drive. What happens when those two things combine? Utter chaos. Or in this case you will have the chance to donate to the Make A Better World Kenya foundation, a non-profit organization that focuses on early childhood education, adult literacy and computer training…all that good, important stuff. The Vancouver minstrel plans to release Radiowave 2 – set of unreleased and remixed early recordings – on bandcamp and donate all contributions to Make A Better World Kenya. Album is due out on December 14th, at which point we will post again to remind you to donate. Listen / download “120″ below.

Tuesday November 29th, 2011 16:40 Songs That Saved Thanksgiving II

After last year’s surprisingly successful Turkey Day spent solo,” I decided not to make the trek home again this year for the big family dinner (and by that I mean my extremely important delivery job kept me from doing so). But pity me not as I enjoyed the next best thing, grilled turkey and the company of good friends. Now first thing’s first, if you’ve never tasted grilled turkey then you’ve never tasted PERFECTLY cooked bird. The juices…the flavor…the skins…

Before I get too carried away (I’ve already begun disrobing at the thought of this turkey), take a listen to the highlights of this year’s Thanksgiving playlist and have yourself a merry little Tuesday.

Tuesday November 29th, 2011 13:54 Dr. Dog: That Old Black Hole

It’s hard to believe Dr. Dog has been around for over ten years now, but the Philly retro-rockers just keep rolling. The band, always known for their killer live show, has been fine-tuning their revivalist sound in the studio the past decade and posted a great effort in 2010 with Shame, Shame. Despite a relentless tour schedule in ’11, Dr. Dog has managed to produce a follow-up. Be The Void is the group’s sixth studio album and second on ANTI-. Check out a video for the album’s first single “That Old Black Hole” above and the new album art after the jump.

Tuesday November 29th, 2011 12:32 The Dodos: So Cold

The Dodos already dropped one of the best albums of 2011 (more to come on this later) but they are in the giving mood, fitting for the time of year. As part of the release of their single “Don’t Try and Hide It,” the band included a brand new b-side. “So Cold” would have fit nice and snug on No Color. Listen to both songs below, and enter in your email after the jump to download both for free. A big thanks to PMA for the heads up.

Monday November 28th, 2011 20:12 Tubetops (EP)

Tubetops is a band originating from Brooklyn, whose debut self-titled EP is being released on December 8th. The result of this collaboration between four friends is a seven-song release that was recorded and produced entirely by the band in their makeshift Crown Heights studio. Their DIY approach to making music gives them a unique sound, while drawing on familiar influences. Tubetops’ incredibly catchy synth lines and vocal hooks will float around your head for days, under layers of synthy electro-pop, R&B, and dub influenced production. Their catchy vocal hooks, keyboard riffs, lustful and suggestive lyrics will make you reminisce about those hot summer, all night dance parties.

What is impressive about this EP is that on each track there is thoughtfully crafted songwriting, brought together by memorable and distinct melodies, striking vocal harmonies, skillful transitions, and mean synth riffs. The EP is an ambitious seven song offering with pop anthem highlights, such as “Here With You” and “Aquamarine.”  On “Beaches,” the group creates an intricately layered ambient instrumental that displays their dexterity with regard to production.

The superb mixing and diverse instrumentation grants a certain richness to their sound which draws from an eclectic range of influences and displays a cohesive blend of digital and acoustic elements. With killer harmonies and seductive melodies, sexuality and nostalgia is fused into their energetic and upbeat sound. Tubetops’ debut release is bound to make some serious waves in the near future. Stay tuned for the self-titled EP on December 8th, but in the meantime catch a preview over at Soundcloud.

Bon Iver is set to release a deluxe edition of their excellent self-titled album tomorrow. Not big news, except for the fact that each song is accompanied by a matching video. Always nice when already vivid and rich songs get coupled with beautiful imagery. Check out “Hinnom, TX” below. The super duper deluxe edition is available tommorrow on Itunes. If you need help finding it, just ask Siri.

Friday November 25th, 2011 10:09 Oliver Tank: Last Night I Heard Everything In Slow Motion

We have many to thank around this time of year. Sloane wishes all of our readers a happy holiday season and we hope you are surrounded by family and loved ones. It is also important to remember that one in three Americans are considered poor by the standard definition. If you have the means we urge you to remember those less fortunate as winds get colder and snow starts falling. Special thanks to Reddit and the GetUp movement (marriage equality movement in Australia) for introducing me to this Oliver Tank tune. A perfect song to illustrate the powerful message of hope this season give us coupled with the sense of tremendous loss.  Check out Oliver Tank’s EP over at Band Camp and check out the GetUp video right here.
